When Joe Tucker left his cabin in the woods of Maple Ontario to pursue his dream of becoming a country star in Nashville Tennessee, he never imagined that he would end up playing for nobody in a rundown bar in Tulsa Oklahoma. Not only did Joe not make it to Nashville, but he ended up in the wrong state altogether. Sure Ontario was as cold as; if hell freezes over; but at least he had his cabin there, his home; wherein the evenings, he would grab his guitar on the front porch and start cranking out tunes. After two months in the “Outlaws Tavern”, Joe’s spirit was starting to quickly wind down. The owner of “Outlaws Tavern” Mr. Bill Baton Rouge was a proud member of the AHBA, who loved to wear his cowboy hat, boots, and Levis jeans with a checkers shirt and an Armani Brown Jacket. “Listen son” Bill started consoling Joe, “I know you got your big dreams and singing here at the tavern, just ain’t where you figured you’d end up but…” before! Bill could finish his thought; Bill was interrupted by the sight of someone standing by the tavern’s entrance door!”. Joe had to go back on stage. ‘Well, what the heck are you doin standing over there for? Are you gonna come in and order a drink or what?” Bill asked with a puzzled look! The woman by the entrance dusted of her dreadlocks and replied with a smile, “I was just trying to figure out if I’d be welcome in here, being my kind and all?” Bill responded! “And what kind is that? a drunk or outlaw? Both are welcome here so come on in and sit yourself down, your first drink is on the house”. As the bartender approached Joan with a “what’ll be honey?” Joan replied “I’ll have some of that “No Shoes Nation Rum” and she gave the bartender a quick wink. The bartender responded with “That’s my kinda drink. Coming right up Mam”. Meanwhile, Joe couldn’t help but notice that Joan was carrying a guitar case, so Joe came close to his microphone and announced, “takin a short brake; be back in a bit”. Then Joe inserted a Kenny Rogers “Back Home Again” CD in the player and, as he stepped down the stage, Kenny’s “Two Good Reasons” started blasting out of the speakers’ just right above the bar. Joe wasn’t the shy type. So he made his way over to Joan and said to the bartender, “I’ll have whatever the lady’s havin and get her another one on me”. Joe smiled at Joan. Joan did the same and as they looked at each other, their musicianship connected. Joe sat down right next to Joan and after telling Joan his story, he asked Joan “what about you? Where are you heading to?” Joan replied; “I’m on the next bus to Nashville”. Joe felt a tinge of jealousy and said “You know what my problem is? When I was back in Ontario, songs just poured outa me a dime a dozen, but now; I can’t even come up with one line of lyrics”. Joan nodded empathetically and said “maybe it’s this joint. You need to get on that bus with me to Nashville’. After a couple of more drinks, they were already making plans on how they were gonna make it big in Nashville. Joan told Joe enthusiastically, “I think we should fuse Island music with country music; that should be the sound we go after. It’ll set us apart from the competition”. Joe agreed; also enthusiastically. They both grabbed their guitars and they started jamming their first tune together. Joe started singing “So If you’re feelin all alone” while Joan was singing right back at him “And you don’t know where you belong”….Meanwhile,
Bill looked from across the bar and thought “shit! Now I gotta look for another act for the tavern, those two are already lovin for each other!
